We’ve all had this happen. You pull into the local grocery store and there that person is, the same person every week, with the sign in their hands. You feel guilty, conflicted, about walking away. You’re worried that they’ll use any money you give for something bad, or you don’t carry cash, etc. Whatever happens, we’re often faced with a moral dilemma.

I’ve been researching this for a while now, and what major groups say, those that specialize in working with the unhoused, is to give them needs, and treat them like humans, because they are.

So I’m doing that.

I’m going to set up a non-profit if there’s interest in this work. We’re a local (Seattle area) family so, right now that’s who we’re serving.

Here are the contents of our Hope Bags:

  • 1 toiletry kit. Toothbrush, soap, etc.
  • 2 pairs of socks
  • 1 Protein bar
  • 2 sets of Feminine products (for women-oriented bags)
  • 1 bottle of water
  • 1 card for help numbers, both local and national
  • 1 emergency shiny blanket to keep both warm and cool
  • 1 draw string carry bag

That’s it for now. We’re starting small, and these kits weren’t that much, about $5 per bag. If you want to create your own I can tell you how. Eventually we’ll have a donation button. Right now, I’m just telling you what I’m doing, and would love your prayers.
